Fleetwood Town 3-2 Foxhall (at Foxhall)
Sunday 1st February 2009
Although this should have been a home game for the lads their home pitch was unplayable due to the weather so after consultation with the Foxhall management the game was played away. After losing their last 3 league games this was an important game for Town which they eventually won by the odd goal. Playing 4-5-1 in the first half the midfield was very congested and players didn’t get much time on the ball. Town though did create numerous good chances to score as Ellis, Bradford, Chadwick and Reader all went close to opening the scoring. Foxhall were competing well and pushing Town back in phases of the game but Witter in the Fleetwood net never looked troubled as the defence of Anderson, Roe, Young and Haugan soaked most attacks up with ease. So a nil-nil score line at the break with all to play for in the 2nd half.
Town brought on their new signing Josh Robinson after the break and went 4-4-2 to create more space in the midfield and it paid instant dividends as in the first minute Ellis ran onto a Chadwick through ball and shot low past the keeper to put the lads 1-0 up. Three minutes later and Chadwick played the ball wide to Ellis on the right who crossed for Robinson who controlled well and produced a deft lob over the keeper to make the score 2-0. Only 4 minutes later and the score was 2-2 as Foxhall scored 2 in 2 minutes one with a header from a corner and the other with a clinical strike from the left giving Jensen now in goal no chance. The next 20 minutes saw Town miss a hatful of good chances and Foxhall also had their moments especially from corners. In the last minute Town won a corner on the left and Chadwick whipped the ball over into the box and as Foxhall failed to clear Ellis pounced to tap home the winner. This was a much closer game than it should have been as Town created enough chances to have won 2 games but credit to Foxhall who kept going and could have won it also. Some excellent performances today from all the lads but the man of the match went to captain Ben Reader who never stopped running. Well done.
