FLEETWOOD, Lancs, August 24 2008
Workington Reserves 1 Town Reserves 1
Just what Workington are doing in the Lancashire League, I don’t really know. When you look out of the mini bus window after a two and a half-hour drive and you can see the coast of Scotland I think you can gather just why Workington’s home record is quite impressive.
Take nothing away from them, though. They are a very hard side to beat and despite losing their manager and half a dozen players to Gretna Green they will be a force once again this season as they try to hold on to the title they pipped Fleetwood to last term.
Town got off to the worst possible start when inside the opening five minutes Ollie Kelly’s back pass to keeper Mark Smith was woefully short of pace and the Workington forward took the chance to score. The journey was taking its toll on the visitors and they were clearly under par as they struggled to get a foothold in the game. Keeper Smith was called upon a couple of times in the half to rescue his team mates and Fleetwood were lucky to see the half out only one goal down.
The second half however was a complete turn around as Fleetwood stepped up
the pace and totally dominated their hosts. It came as no surprise when
Fleetwood finally got what they deserved. A lightning attack saw Joel Cowell
slip the ball to Kyle Webster and he drilled his shot past the keeper. Town were now rampant but despite their hard work the second goal never came. All in all a good point and a good second half dis[play maintains Fleetwood’s unbeaten start to the season,
