Don’t be misled by the result of this game, the outcome was very much in the balance with twenty minutes to go. Town had just taken a 2-0 lead, through Anthony Warwick’s second goal of the game, when , following a lengthy break through an injury to the home sides keeper, Burscough scored straight from the kick off.
For the next twenty minutes Fleetwood’s defence was given a stern examination as Burscough searched for an equaliser. However, once Town had weathered the storm, they regained their composure to hit the home side with three more goals to give the score line a rather flattering look.
Fleetwood, s third was scored by the returning Kevin Leadbetter, who tapped in from close range after a darting run down the left wing by Jason Rawcliffe. Leadbetter looked sharp throughout the encounter and looks hungry for first team action. Another ex-Burscough legend was next on the score sheet. Farrell Kilbane scored from long range. Rawcliffe completed the scoring when he waltzed past the keeper with minutes to go.
Earlier Fleetwood had dominated the first half but only had Warwick’s solitary effort to show for their control .Leadbetter was sent flying down the left flank by a superb Stuart Danson pass and he in turn picked out Warwick to finish smartly.
All in all a sloppy performance from Fleetwood that could very easily of come back to haunt them, a fact the management stressed at the end of the game!
Team- Hurst, Charlesworth, Eden, Basag, Kilbane, Webster(Wynn 35), Penswick, Danson, Warwick(Wilson 75), Leadbetter(Harris 80),Rawcliffe.
