Fleetwood Town Res 6-3 Bamber Bridge Res
Lancit Haulage League
Fri 26th September
Kick-off 7:45pm
From a spectator viewpoint great entertainment, from the Managers side very frustrating! Fleetwood’s first half performance was as bad as they have played this season. They struggled to come to terms with the opposition’s midfield who were far more mobile than Town’s quartet. Although Bamber Bridge didn’t really hurt Fleetwood and keeper Mark Smith not really tested, the league's top side at home should of at least competed better. As it happened Fleetwood went in to the break one goal up, Phil Denney scoring from close range. At half time Fleetwood were politely reminded that they really should be doing better against a side who, to be fair, are always combative to say the least.
The penny dropped as the second period started. Danny Penswick swept in a free kick, which Tom Wilson got some part of his body on and Town were two up. Andy Moran (pictured) got on the scoresheer after some good work by Anthony Warwick. Moran’s second soon followed, this time a neat finish after being put through by Stuart Danson. Moran snatched his hat trick with another smart finish, which must of pleased watching first team boss Micky Mellon, who has put his faith in the former Tranmere front man to produce his best form. Fleetwood had the game in the bag but some very poor marking allowed the visitors to grab two simple goals. Town then went to the other end and Warwick got their sixth with an excellent effort. Fleetwood still had time to mess up at the back once more to let Bamber Bridge snatch their third.
Town’s management, despite scoring six, were far from happy at the final whistle. The defending at times was straight from the schoolyard and with a big game coming up away to Barrow on Wednesday night Town must tighten up if they are to come away from Holker Street with anything.
Team –Smith, Basag, Harris, Robinson (Wynn 75), Danson, Penswick, Wilson (Kelly 65), Webster, Denney (Rawcliffe 55), Moran, Warwick.
