Fleetwood Town Res 10-1 Darwen Res
Lancit Haulage League
Monday 19th January 2009
Match Report by Steve Edwards

Town's second string have been threatening to thump some one all season and unfortunately for Darwen it was they who copped it.

The Collins Park pitch was in excellent condition and greatly helped Towns passing game. It took the home side ten minutes or so to come to terms with their new surroundings but once Stuart Harris had put Steve Foster (pictured) through for the first goal they quickly got into their stride. Danny Penswick scored the second from close range after some fine wing play from Mark Peers. Foster then scored his second when he sprung the offside trap and lobbed the keeper from twenty five yards. Foster then completed his hat trick with another clinical finish. Anthony Warwick then scored arguably the best goal of the evening, crashing in a twenty yarder. In between goals.  Andy Bell was replaced by Brett Dawson after a 30-minute run out. Bell suffered a slight knock but was reported fine on Tuesday morning.

Foster was taken off at half time after his first-half hat trick to be replaced by Joel Cowell. The substitute instantly had an impact on the game as he flew down the right wing and cut the ball back for Dawson to score. For the next ten minutes Fleetwood took their foot off the gas and allowed Darwen to have their best spell of the game. The visitors forced a succession of corners which despite Towns obvious height advantage caused Mike Hale in the goal some worrying moments. It came as no surprise when Darwen pulled a goal back from one such corner when poor marking allowed the Darwen player a free header.

Fleetwood’s response was almost instant, Dawson released by a long ball from Harris to finish in style. A carbon copy of the same goal followed for Dawson to complete his hat trick. Peers then got in on the act, scoring with a superb free kick after Warwick had been brought crashing down as raced in on goal. Warwick wrapped up proceedings with a deflected shot to cap a very good performance from the wide man.

There is no doubt Darwen are not the strongest of teams but what was pleasing for the Reserve management was where the team has been in position’s in previous games to go on and rack up double figures they have not done so. This time the chances were taken and Darwen were the helpless victims. Fleetwood Reserves are next in action away to Clitheroe on the 28th January.

Team- Mike Hale, Kyle Webster (Mike Mulligan 68), Stuart Harris, Stuart Danson, Steve Williams, Danny Penswick, Tom Wilson, Anthony Warwick, Andy Bell (Brett Dawson 30), Steve Foster (Joel Cowell 46), Mark Peers.
