Fleetwood Town U18 3-0 Deepdale Boys
Lancashire Cup 2nd Round
Sunday 12th October
The youth team hosted Deepdale Boys on Sunday 12th October. After a 4-1 midweek win in the FA Youth Cup it was time for the Lancashire Cup 2nd Round. A limited squad of 12 fit players were available but each man worked hard and did what was asked.
Fleetwood missed a number of early chances and it looked it may not be their day when dependable Sam Ratcliffe (pictured) opened the scoring. His goal came from a low, hard shot from just outside the box and was almost identical to the one he scored in the FA Youth Cup last Wednesday. The goal gave Town the confidence to push forward in search of increasing the lead. Mike Booth delivered with a sharp finish from a good Matty Gair cross. The 2-0 lead was taken into the break without threat.
Fleetwood started the second period in positive mood and continued their pressure on the visitor’s goal. Deepdale finally caved 10 minutes into the second half when Adam Sumner collected the ball in midfield. He worked his way past three defenders to blast home past the stranded keeper.
The home defence played well with Joe Bowley and Grant Dell both putting in excellent performances. The midfielders were exceptional, with both their forward and defensive play counting towards the victory. The strikers also worked hard throughout the game. Keeper Tom Holland started his first game of the season and had little trouble.
Manager Mike Sumner said “We are growing in strength with each game. My man of the match was Sam Ratcliffe. He not only opened the scoring, but put in a solid and confident performance.”
